I had never paid much attention to tiled floors until coming to Montevideo, where there are many places in the old city with magnificently tiled floors.

I became intrigued by this building, and when we discovered there was a tile museum a few blocks from where we lived, we immediately went over. They had thousands of wonderful historical examples from all over the world. Here are a few I photographed.

I was frequently impressed with this old city’s love of all forms of architectural decoration.
