A third testing of the Aphor list
A second testing of the Aphor list
A first testing of the Aphor list

Below is a fifth use of the Aphor system, making a list by simply choosing a word such as “now” and in the SEARCH box enter Aphor, and ‘space “your word” space.’ Entering Aphor will limit the search to pages with that CATEGORY search term previously entered on each post, and also entering your word, such as “now” with spaces before and after it, will find pages within the Aphor list with the word now. When at any page, hitting Ctrl-f and typing ‘space now space’ will highlight only those complete words on the current downloaded page. Here below is what was cut and pasted from the eight years of pages.

Maxims #161 — Alan Watts – 3. Every word we speak came from a tangled history of others using that word to define their thought that we now think of as our-thought. – 19. Because we have had the past experience of changing our future behavior and our physical surroundings, claiming we are only alive right now doesn’t fit our experience with reality. – In COMMENTS – The point is only to know, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that “I” and all other “things” now present will vanish until this knowledge compels you to release them – to know it now.

Maxims #158 — Voltaire – 48. The media now fulfills the church’s traditional role of making our lives better, in the future, by purchasing their magical stuff. – 80 Your ancestral mothers choosing moral men for mates evolved into the natural morality that humans now possess. Maxims #154 — Thales of Miletus – In COMMENTS – Modern debt, especially credit cards, and now educational debt from which there is no escape by bankruptcy, becomes the fast track into individual slavery.

Maxims #146 — John Searle – In COMMENTS – I thought of it as humor, but in my more advanced age I suspect that my friends thought of it as a form of nastiness, what is now termed passive aggressive.

Maxims #137 — Charles Scamahorn – In COMMENTS – It is outrageous to place oneself in a list with so many fantastically successful philosophers, and yet I have created the most coherent theory of why people have risen from an animal state to the condition they now occupy. – Many qualities combine to make up morality, and there must be many genetically heritable genes underlying character, but because of these genes, people are now moral because it is now part of their genetic inheritance to be virtuous. – It is outrageous to place oneself in a list with so many fantastically successful philosophers, and yet I have created the most coherent theory of why people have risen from an animal state to the condition they now occupy. [I was unaware of the duplication of a that paragraph and at this moment that source duplication is being deleted. – Done.]

Maxims #115 — Thomas Paine – 68. We now have exposed, within our technology, the capacity to bring our galaxy to consciousness. – 82. The power that tried to subdue us on what is now our land must not be asked to be the one that defends us beyond our shores.

Some common thoughts stated as maxims, #2 – 12. You created your habits, now you get to live with them.

Some common thoughts stated as maxims. – 1. F. If you are now happy, healthy, and wise, you are rich enough.

Philosophers Squared – Donald Davidson – In COMMENTS – computers are now transitioning into thinking creatures, and will soon be making philosophical considerations about their own beingness and ultimate purpose in the Universe.

Condensed thoughts compilation from Probaway’s 2014 blog – 24 April 2014  In the infinity of the future it would seem inevitable that terrible things will happen. Now in times of calm thought and potential reflection is the time to prepare ourselves for appropriate action. – 27 April 2014  Writing something down, especially in an indexable form as is now done on a computer, makes it more easily available, and more used and thus more valuable. – 31July 2014 – Now is a wonderful time for action for those who are prepared to act. – 14 August 2014 – I’m on my hands and knees looking for the Skeptic in Bend – Now that I am officially geriatric it is probably better to be in a quieter community. – 08 September 2014 – Jack the Ripper returns again and again, and now it’s DNA. – Why did the Huffington Post article have so much linking to Doyle and nothing about Aaron Kosminski, today’s Ripper suspect? – 13 September 2014 – 2500 of Probaway’s condensed thoughts are now available. – Now is the time take a step up the maturity scale. – 04 October 2014 – Ebola compared to historical epidemics and wars. – Logarithmic charts are good for showing biological growth, which is how Ebola behaves, and we humans are now its food. – 03 December 2014 – Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) logarithmic chart update – A positive indicator is that the large amount of money and personnel being invested on stamping out Ebola is now beginning to show. – 15 January 2013 – A way out of the sad state of the world. Poor self-identity is associated with non-separation from one’s mother, and that’s now common. – 22 February – A new possible categorical imperative. The totality of humanity’s life and choices as may be seen in retrospect by people now living. – 31 May 2013 – MERS-CoV may or may not be the deadly pandemic, but it is wise now to prepare the right flu fighting habits. Links to my list. – 6 October 2013 – Daniel Dennett – That’s enough. I’ve considered this matter enough, and now I’m going to act. – 24 December 2013 – Will I, our world be better off a year from now if I apply these words, and concepts they imply, to my present decisions for action?

Philosophers Squared – John Searle – 6. It [writing] has enormous meta-cognitive implications. The power is this: That you cannot only think in ways that you could not possibly think if you did not have the written word, but you can now think about the thinking that you do with the written word.- 30. the lives of such people are made much easier than they had previously supposed, because now they don’t have to worry about an author’s intentions, about precisely what a text means, or about distinctions within a text between the metaphorical and the literal, or about the distinction between texts and the world because everything is just a free play of signifiers. The upper limit, and I believe the reductio ad absurdum, of this “sense of mastery” conveyed by deconstruction, is in Geoffrey Hartman’s claim that the prime creative task has now passed from the literary artist to the critic.

Philosophers Squared – Thomas Paine – 60. He can now provide for his own comfort, and learn from my munificence to all to be kind to each other.

The Bed of Procrustes by Nassim Taleb – book review –  Taleb would now believe are poor responses to environmental stressors, such as, “You have a real life if and only if you do not compete with anyone in any of your pursuits.

COMMENTS

This compilation took about two hours of work, with some intermittent breaks to do household and garden chores, but it shows how a computer might respond to the original statement in the Probaway SEARCH box [Aphor now ]. This posted human search goes back to November 30, 2012.

It does have some uses, because the word “now” gives context which brings different ideas into the foreground of consciousness. Choose any pair, or more, of quotes above and smash them together to create a new idea.

BBC, Health issues, Jack the Ripper

I rarely discuss my personal health. Then along came a touch of prostate cancer and the forty-four radiation treatments. That was dangerous if not treated but the treatments were apparently successful. Then there was the two-month check-up after all of those treatments, when I had a lump in my groin area that I mentioned to my doctor. He said I had an inguinal hernia. That was taken care of within two months, and I had a remarkably easy time of that too. So, all perfect again.

Then an hour ago, about the time I normally start writing this blog, my blood pressure went from its usual 115/55-55 up to the 150/80-45 range. That’s as high a blood  pressure reading as I have ever seen on my home blood pressure monitor. I immediately asked Debbie to check hers to use the device see if it was malfunctioning, but her reading was typical for her. I feel fine, and yet because of that little blip on my near perfect life, I have been doing other things than writing this blog.

When I started my procedure for a very short blog post, which includes checking my page view monitor, and I was shocked to see there were about five times as many views as usual. My Jack the Ripper posts counted for that huge jump. Apparently, the BBC aired its Jack the Ripper story. I had been contacted about a possible interview, but that never happened. My guess is that they didn’t want one of their cultural heroes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes, being the world’s most infamous serial murder too, so they didn’t pursue that subject in their report. Unfortunately for them, it is easy to find Doyle’s signature built right into the critical documents. I don’t think that claim can be made about any of the other suspects.

It was another day where nothing appeared to be happening to me, if you saw me out watering my garden. I live the life of Pangloss.

Several of my friends want me to teach spirituality.

The spirituality of reality., What a wonderful world.

I am buried in data! Thousands of books (Ha, Ha … you’ll never read us all!) – I probably won’t even open one percent of them. Hundreds perhaps of gallery-worthy photos and hand-worked graphic pictures too, that are ready to go. They will never been seen by anyone again, probably even me. They would look great printed up in the new acrylic facing method, without framing. Framing typically costs more than the prints. If I were rich I would just send them to the right people and be done with them.

3746 blog posts as of today and many of them on things that are already ready to bundle up into books and send to a publisher. I get off into a subject and write a lot about it and then move on. Much of those things are ordinary subjects like the stuff on philosophers, but some of it is weird by any standards like the proofs that Jack the Ripper is Conan Doyle and that Doyle is the author of many other real crimes.

And much, much more, but over the last several weeks a strange opportunity has percolated up into my world. People are asking me to become the president of the local Spiritual Awareness Community. This group has been exploring the fringes of reality and that is why I became interested. They have discovered some things that would bear scientific scrutiny, although the vast majority is little more than projections of forlorn hopes that their lives are more meaningful than their reality. If I take over the job of leading the direction of the charge, it will be to find the spiritual core of normal reality. There are many options to be explored but the goal is to make people’s lives meaningful in a way that isn’t based on fantasy hopes and pathological lies.

I can say with deep feeling about our reality, “What a wonderful world. What a wonderful world!”

Probaway stats of page views, Probaway Wordpress, Statistics of page views

Ten years ago I decided to write a blog and to do one post per day for a month. I didn’t think I had thirty thoughts worth writing about because I had published in 1995 a thing called Proba-95.  There were only 15 one page articles in that document but they included Sherlock-#15 which exposed a method for discovering innumerable hoax/crimes committed by Arthur Conan Doyle. Perhaps you also have more thoughts than you think you do.

To view the links below type keywords text into the SEARCH box at the top.

Here are my most popular posts in 10 years and 3700 posts

Its a long tail and there are many more posts with hundreds of page views. A total of 1.73 million views at present.

My daily routine wasn't interupted., The Case of the Seven Greek Sages, Treating a common cold

Two mornings ago I woke up with a slight tickle in my lungs. There hadn’t been any colds visible in the various people I know, and yet one was missing from my Monday morning writers group. It was casually implied in a passing comment that she wasn’t feeling well and nothing more was said. Later in the afternoon, the slight tickle had grown more noticeable, but it is spring and dust and pollen are in the air. I was still hesitant to label my symptoms a cold. Usually, my colds begin with an itchy nose and proceed to a raw sinus and then a day later move down my throat and it isn’t until about day three that the problem reaches my lungs. Because of the different symptoms of this problem I was tardy in beginning my proven cold treatment: A cure for the common cold using 105° F baths.

Yesterday I woke up again with the tickle in my lungs that was noticeably worse, but still there was no phlegm or coughing and once again my first thought was that it was spring pollen in the air. I had another group meeting that morning and after a bit of work was off without a worry. I have been working steadily on the Seven Sages of Greece for weeks and got in a couple of hours of analysis and some strange discoveries before heading out. This project is very similar to my analysis of the Jack the Ripper murders. There is an overabundance of funny little clues that point toward a deep intelligence behind these things.

At yesterday’s meeting where there are typically twenty-five in attendance, there were several regulars missing. I noticed it but didn’t attribute it to anything other than statistical variation. During the two hours I think I did a single mild cough three times. I was barely coughing, more like a clearing of my throat but deeper. There were a couple of others doing that cough too, which I wouldn’t have noticed if I wasn’t doing it. Also, I was feeling quieter and less eager to engage in discussion than usual, which for me is an indicator of an incipient cold. Later in the early evening, I decided to take a preventative bath just in case this was a cold coming on.

This morning I still wasn’t sick enough for anyone to notice, but I could notice, so I decided to do my hot bath cold cure routine. Two 106° F baths per day for three days, raising my mouth temperature to 101.5° F for ten minutes. Then once per day for three more days, if needed. I have lowered the mouth temperature a half a degree from what I used to do because I am approaching eighty-two years old and I don’t want to overstress my body.

Other than eating, our daily walks, this blog and the hot baths I worked constantly on The Case of the Seven Greek Sages.

A Probaway blog overview of past and future

person of the year, Popular Probaway posts, Predicting the future, Probaway blog overview, What to blog about?

Most of Probaway.wordpress page views come from my personal medical observations. Currently the most popular have been, 1. How to cough to get stuff out of deep into one’s throat or even in the lungs. 2. How to drink foul-tasting purging fluids for colonoscopy has also been popular, and during the flu season, 3. How to cure the common cold, gets a goodly number of visits. 4. Poison Oak itching still gets some and 5. Preventing Alveolar osteitis 6. How to cough when you have a broken rib gets a few. But, what bothers me is that posts on what I spend nearly all my time creating get very few hits. 7. Jack the Ripper was Conan Doyle is usually squeaking into the top ten but for me at least that is stuff I discovered even before the AAAS 1987 presentation in San Francisco, although I only revealed 8. The Drake Plate of Brass, 9. The Kensington Stone, and 10. The Piltdown Man hoaxes at that time. See page 157-9 of Scientific Sherlock Holmes by James O’Brien for flimsy arguments that I’m wrong about these documented proofs.

11. The Probaway Person of the Year is coming up, which is in part a rejoinder to TIME magazine’s usually short-sighted and forgettable picks. A college kid wouldn’t recognize half of their picks of the last eighty years. I could test that by printing up the list and showing it to some acquaintances of that age group. The Probaway picks are intended to be memorable in five-hundred years. That is a problem for modern people because the Probaway strategy permits people who might be little known to the popular press at the moment like 12. Jennifer Doudna, of UC Berkeley the creator of CRISPR, to be listed, although George M. Church of Harvard, even though he didn’t publish for a year after her, might get the credit for his upgrades to the whole CRISPR process. He is more of a TV personality than she is, but that is a detail in the long run. The main point is that CRISPR will transform what is known as life! Nothing can be bigger than that! TIME has almost missed the significance of their discoveries, even though they have written articles about both of them.

What direction should Probaway take in the future? What are the major events of the next few years that should be addressed? It might be Palmer Luckey, for  Virtual Reality (VR), or Albert Einstein for LIGO, or will Trump be so disruptive that he will once again be the TIME Person of the Year? He might use atomic weapons, or provoke the use of them by others, or do other things that resound through my 500-year memorability time horizon, and thus make it to Probaway Person of the Year.

I have been arguing for years that the world has been living in a period of astonishing peace, the Pax Obama. Everyone instantly disagrees and will bring up individual police shootings as examples of societal trouble and its fundamental dysfunction. I mention Genghis Kahn, or WWII and the two hundred thousand or so people that my personal friends in the USAF killed in Viet Nam the 1960s, but those historical facts are discounted as ancient history.

I have been saying to my current friends that if and when Trump is inaugurated on January 20, 2017, I will support him in all he does, but when he attempts to shut down the First Amendment freedom of speech and of the press I will do what I can to maintain those rights. He will probably attack the late night comics first, and they will probably fight back furiously. If they are pushed off the air, it means that the 1st Amendment is gone. Most people don’t think he will do that, but other countries are already limiting free speech when it disparages the leader, so it isn’t a new thing for our modern world.

There is an old saying and I don’t think I made up — “Too much peace and there will be war, and too much war and there will be peace.” Or perhaps stated more assertively, “Excessive peace brings war, excessive war brings peace.” If that is a historical “law” the depth of the Pax Obama will usher in a horrible depth of war. If that comes to pass it will be the event of the year. In the 500-year time frame of Probaway Person of the Year, a major war is probably inevitable, and the seven decades since 1945 without the military use of atomic weapons will be seen as an astonishingly lucky period.

January 20, 2017 will be the end of Pax Obama and may be the end of Pax Americana.
