To create a “human and humane” presence throughout the Universe with 1 tic 22 stars (1 x 10^22 or 1 with 22 zeros after it) with potential life-sustaining planets around them requires an intellect-driven presence to last for a hundred-billion years. I and presumably you too, if you are human, only have a potential for a hundred years of life. That is a billion times too short to be effective, and therefore we must find a way to communicate that is more durable, robust, tough, and antifragile.

One way to achieve distant communication would be to send seeds of organic life and seeds of robotic life to distant stars and galaxies. Some ethicists would argue against those actions because they would interfere with various kinds of life that already existed in those distant places. That is unlikely because if similar things arrived here on Earth they would be instantly eaten by already existing forms that had conformed to the pressures of local evolution. Because the physics, chemistry and evolutionary forces are similar throughout the universe there is little risk of contamination.

Early in the process of creating these intergalactic seeds, we need to figure out what they would need to survive through time and destructive radiation encountered on the trip. Perhaps having several copies and waking up occasionally and resetting themselves to the most likely previous state would work. That process would need to be of very good quality to sustain itself for the time of travel from one galaxy to another.

Also, there would need to be some generalized self-replicating ability built into the system that would function, at least minimally, in many different environments. And that self-replication could be designed to intentionally adapt to the environment rather than simply produce new members and whose survivors alone reproduced. That would be a future-predicting wisdom-driven evolution, rather than evolution driven by death alone. It would be more likely to flourish.

Humans are capable of thinking about interplanetary seeds and of testing via human thought and computer projections into various conditions, and of recycling potential survivors. Of all creatures, we alone can do it.
