Today it is time for the annual week vacation at Lake Tahoe, and so after an early rising, and a flurry of packing stuff which mostly won’t be used it’s off and freee for a weeek. Well, not so fast … there is that little promise of doing a blog every day this year, and that original promise to myself included vacations. And so these next couple of blogs may be even more trivial than usual.

It was a very mild day, and even Sacramento, which is usually hot even boiling this time of the year, was a perfect vacation spot. But, that wasn’t where my rent was paid up for the week so it was zip on through for me, and on up into the mountains with such scenes as this one in Strawberry.

Then on and up over the mountain to this little pull out with Lake Tahoe in the distance.

The rocks beside the road were very photogenic so here is a quick snap of them.

Three and a half hours from El Cerrito, and here is my pleasant reward. A nice place to sit and chat with my old buddies.

Since they haven’t arrived just yet the place is very vacant feeling, but still lovely. A quick phone home to my true love to give assurance of safe travel while above me this strange cloud hovers.

After off loading the luggage it’s the short walk to the Truckee meadows where there is this rather picturesque scene of verdant grassland, and dead tree.

Onward for a couple of minutes and here is the beach….

with the water down a foot or so, and out a ways leaving a rather nice beach. 25 years ago there was rarely anyone on this beach. The last few years it has become more populated, and now there is almost always several people loafing about. The local beachfront people have done everything possible to keep people off of the public beach so it is necessary to walk for ten minutes from the nearest public parking spot. Even though in some spots it isn’t 30 steps from the paved road to the water.

There is a bit of a drought here in California, but so far it hasn’t bitten very hard. If next year is a dry one then things will get more parched.
