Google Earth offers a interactive map of the Earth which makes it an easy tool to use for searching for possible Lifehaven locations. The basic Lifehaven is an underground self sustaining community of one thousand people designed with the purpose of surviving a world disaster that killed all other humans located outside of each individual cave. There should be a minimum of 10 of these Lifehavens because of the importance of absolute redundancy—this is the survival of the human species, after all. The most likely reason for humanity to be destroyed is because of an atomic war, and a resulting nuclear winter. Therefore, these Lifehavens should be constructed in such a way that the community of people inside of them would not be targeted by the war fighters, and would be able to repel small groups of post war survivalists. The intent is for the post disaster community to be a high quality seed bed from which a new world community could be produced. These people would not come out immediately after the disaster but would send out pioneers to repopulate the Earth. Even after the disaster they would maintain each of the Lifehavens in its fully functioning condition. Each Lifehaven would contain large seed banks of plants, and animals, and a large data bank of technical intellectual knowledge, and design information. There would need to be a large community of various living animals to be used for mothers for the frozen sperm banks. The small human population of one thousand could not maintain a sufficiently large skill set to reconstitute all of the talents necessary to operate the equipment still viable but unattended on the outside world, and therefore there should be a large number of training manuals, and videos for use in teaching these things.

To avoid the worst of the DISS~12 it is best to locate the 10 Lifehavens in the Southern Hemisphere, but even here it would be necessary to locate them more than twenty kilometers from any possible target such as an airport or seaport or even a small town. To avoid tsunamis, possibly caused by H-bombs exploded in the ocean, it is desirable to locate them above 100 meters altitude carved out of solid rock such as granite. They should be located away from zones of serious seismic activity, but still be very solidly built. The basic cave structure should be built for thousands of years of maintenance-free occupancy. The local political environment should be a stable one and one which is amenable to constructing such a structure under their remote mountain.

Remote places such as Easter Island, Tasmania, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa, Cook Islands, Antarctica would be good locations to consider for locating Lifehavens.
